Benchmarking Key Safety Indicators

– An Eight Year Journey

At ProcessMAP, we have tracked some of the leading safety and process indicators year over year. We have been benchmarking these safety indicators across all our customers. These have helped our clients measure their performance against other customers of ProcessMAP. The Safety Benchmarks have also helped both customers and ProcessMAP assess the maturity level of customers as they use the ProcessMAP platform year after year.

We have some very interesting insights we’d like to share with you on Safety Metrics Benchmarking that could help EHS leaders in the industry.

The ProcessMAP CoE (Center of Excellence) team has been working with the EHS leaders among our clients over the last few years to help their employees report more Near Misses and close Action Items on Time. We noticed some encouraging results with a considerable jump in the Near Miss per Recordable Ratio and some of the process metrics.

Below are some of the key insights we observed as follows:

1. Ratio of Near Misses to Recordable Incident within ProcessMAP Customers

The ratio of Near Misses to Recordable Incidents improved by 202.6% in the past 8 years.

 

Near Misses to Recordable Incidents ratio was 2.7% in 2014, and it improved to 8.17% in 2021.

2. Near Miss Action Item On-time Completion Rate within ProcessMAP Customers

Near Miss Action Item On-time Completion Rate has improved by 19.2% over the last 8 years. 

 

As you can see, the Near Miss Action Item On-time Completion Rate was 60.5% in 2014, then it improved to 79.5% in 2021.

3. On-time Incident Action Items Closure Rate within ProcessMAP Customers

On-time Incident Action Items Closure Rate improved by 10.80% over the last 8 years.

 

On-time Incident Action Items Closure Rate was 66% in 2014, then it improved to 76.8% in 2021.

4. Injury/illness On-time Action Items Closure Rate within ProcessMAP Customers

Injury/illness On-time Action Items Closure Rate improved by 11.6% over the last 8 years. 

 

Injury/illness On-time Action Items Closure Rate was 55.2% in 2014, then it improved to 66.8% in 2021.

5. Total Action Item Closure Rate (On-time) within ProcessMAP Customers

Total Action Item Closure Rate (On-time) improved by 9.20% in the past 8 years.

 

The Total Action Item Closure Rate(On-time) was 55.2% in 2014, then it improved to 64.4% in 2021.

6. Near Miss Reported within 24 hours within ProcessMAP Customers

The Increased Near-Miss Reporting, driven by the adoption of mobile solutions, has played a significant role in fostering a culture of workplace safety.

Near Miss Reported within 24 hours improved by 15.8% in the past 8 years.

 

Near Miss Reported within 24 hours was 22.2% in 2014, and it improved to 38.0% in 2021.

7. Near Miss Investigation Completed within 24 Hours Rate within ProcessMAP Customers

Near Miss Investigation Completed within 24 Hours Rate improved by 9% in the past 8 years.

 

Near Miss Investigation Completed within 24 Hours Rate was 22.7% in 2014, then it improved to 31.7% in 2021.

8. Incident Investigation Completed within 24 Hours Rate within ProcessMAP Customers

Incident Investigation Completed within 24 Hours Rate improved by 10.2% in the past 8 years.

 

The Incident Investigation Completed within 24 Hours Rate was 8.6% in 2014,  then it improved to 18.8% in 2021.

9. Incidents Reported within 8 Hours  within ProcessMAP Customers

By co-innovating actively with global EHSQ leaders and stakeholders, our comprehensive solutions for managing incidents across employee health and safety, operational risk, and environmental risk areas have played a critical role in achieving an incident-free safety culture.

Incident Reported within 8 hours improved by 8.5% in the past 8 years.

 

The Incident Reported within 8 hours was 1.3% in 2014, then improved to 9.8% in 2021.

10. Environmental On-time Action Item Closure Rate within ProcessMAP Customers

Environmental On-time Action Item Closure Rate improved by 10.2% over the last 8 years. 

 

The Environmental On-time Action Item Closure Rate was 58.3% in 2014, which improved to 68.5% in 2021.

11. Property Damage On-time Action Item Closure Rate within ProcessMAP Customers

Property Damage On-time Action Item Closure Rate improved by 15.2% in the past 8 years.

 

The Property Damage On-time Action Item Closure Rate was 55.7% in 2014, then improved to 70.9% in 2021.

12. General Liability On-time Action Item Closure Rate within ProcessMAP Customers

General Liability On-time Action Item Closure Rate improved by 40% in the past 8 years. 

 

General Liability On-time Action Item Closure Rate was 40% in 2014, which improved to 80% in 2021.
