Harley-Davidson Rides to “Best-in-Galaxy” Safety with ProcessMAP

Harley-Davidson, Inc. is the parent company of Harley-Davidson Motor Company and Harley-Davidson Financial Services. Since 1903, Harley-Davidson has fulfilled dreams of personal freedom by leading the innovation of two-wheeled mobility.  Harley-Davidson generates more than $5.9B in sales and has more than 6,500 employees spread across 9 manufacturing centers and 26 sales and marketing offices around the world.

2009 was a major inflection point for the Harley-Davidson Motor Company’s (H-D) journey towards safety. Leading up to this year, the company recorded one injury for every twelve employees on the job. An internal assessment revealed that H-D employees were four times more likely to get hurt at work than the average U.S. worker in any other industry. The company received citations for violations by regulatory agencies in the U.S., Brazil, and Australia.

Having realized the need to fundamentally transform its approach towards workplace safety, H-D articulated its  mission to “Achieve Health & Safety Excellence through Leadership and Employee Engagement” by adopting a health and safety solution framework that tied together workplace hazard analysis, prevention and control, along with case and claims management with education, communication, recognition and a Continuous Improvement System (CIS).
